This body of work explores the contrast in time between drawing and sewing, the expressive nature of the nude, and capturing a sense of movement in a static medium. What interests me the most is the marked difference in observation; the initial 2-5 minute deadline of observing from life, to the labored recreation of the figure in thread with minimal guides- again I must depend on my eyes to gauge proportions but in a slower and more exacting method of embroidery rather than the quickness of drawing. I strive to retain the immediacy of the line quality in the sketch while rendering it in very deliberate stitches. I am transposing my 2-5 minute quick sketches into embroidered drawings that take between 5-25 hours to complete. Each nude was drawn from life, and then sewn by hand.
